Fun and Easy Recipes for Busy Families

Family Preparing Pancakes Together in kitchen

Working weeknights can be chaotic, especially with the constant barrage of homework, extracurricular activities, and family life.

Family cooking is a fun, interactive activity, allowing parents and children to create and innovate together. Here are some fun-filled, quick, and nutritious recipes that you and your children can prepare together. So put on your oven mitts and let’s get started!

Bell Pepper Pizzas

Kids love pizza! For the little chefs in your home, dress them in one of our kids’ aprons and help them make tasty pizzas. This one’s a healthy twist on everyone's favourite takeaway.

Example ingredients:

  • Bell peppers
  • Tomato sauce
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • Mini pepperoni
  • Olives
  • Oven mitts/oven gloves

Instructions: Preheat your oven to 180°C. Slice the peppers into three or four pieces (depending upon the shape of the pepper) and lay them out skin down on a baking tray. The kids can then spread each with a spoonful of tomato sauce, sprinkle on some grated Mozzarella, and top with their favourite toppings (it’s going to get messy!). Pop the tray into the oven for about 15 minutes, until the cheese bubbles. Keeping the little ones away from the oven, use oven mitts or oven gloves to remove the tray from the oven.

Caterpillar Crunch Salad

This colourful salad requires something bright like an orange apron!

Ingredients:

  • Cucumber
  • Cherry Tomatoes
  • Edible googly eyes
  • Cream cheese

Instructions: Slice the cucumber into wheels and cherry tomatoes in half. Let your children assemble the caterpillar on a plate, placing cucumber wheels as the body and cherry tomato halves as feet. Dab a small amount of cream cheese on each cucumber wheel and stick the googly eyes on top.

Monkey Banana Pancakes

For a delightful family pyjama breakfast, help your children prepare the mixture wearing one of our kids’ aprons and create wonderfully fluffy monkey banana pancakes.

Ingredients:

  • Pancake mix
  • Bananas
  • Chocolate syrup
  • Whipped cream

Instructions: Follow the instructions on the pancake mix to create your batter (or make your own). Once ready, cook the pancakes on a non-stick pan. Slice bananas and lay them out to make funny monkey faces on each pancake, use the chocolate syrup to draw features, and whipped cream for additional decoration.

Cooking with kids can be messy, but the accompanying laughter, enjoyment, memories, and, of course, delicious food make it worth it. So roll up those sleeves, pop on those oven gloves, grab a kid’s apron for the little ones, and let the family cooking lesson commence!
